Peter used his telephoto lense to get a good picture of the Pope as he came by on a ship. He docked on the other side of the river and then went into the Cathedral to say the opening mass.

Hello Andrew,

It was very conwenient of the Pope to take advantage of the 20th Annual World Youth gathering to drop in for a visit. Great media opportunity.

Andrew,we must keep our eyes on God. He is the creator. If we do, we will not be distracted.

So, what about the 100's of thousands of youth? What message did the Pope deliver to you?

How many people were there at the first mass? The media here has been pathetic. Not much info. Benedict is a world leader, soooo you would think the media would write about what he said to the Youth of the World. I know I am interested in what he has to say so I am sure their are lots of people just like me. CNN would rather cover the wars, bombing and murderers than the Pope. Ticks me off! I am glad you were there, so you can give us all the news. I am sure the German people were very excited to have Benedict there in their country especially because he is German also.

I see the temperature in Spain is warm. Enjoy the sun and beaches and don't start talking about coming home until the night before you have to leave.

Just bask in the Spanish culture and sunshine. Fall asleep on the beach and wake up to watch the sunset. Drink some cool fruity drinks and eat some hot spicy food. Meet some interesting people and make friends for life. The world is alot smaller these days with the internet and cell phones. So keeping in touch with your European friends will be very do-able.

We tried to phone your cell this morning. No answer. Will try again later.
Luv Ya, Ciao Bello

The opening mass had about 70,000 at Dusseldorf, 100,000 at Bonn, and 50,000 at Koln. The parts of the mass were simulcast to all three places, but most of the mass was exclusive to the place where you were at.
